Purpose
In an effort to do all that we can for our state during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Duluth Area Family YMCA’s True North AmeriCorps partnered with ServeMinnesota and Reading and Math Inc to help launch the Minnesota AmeriCorps Emergency Response Initiative in the summer of 2020 and again in summer 2021. This initiative will run from June 7, 2021 – August 14, 2021 and June 21, 2021 – August 27, 2021
Position Information
Minnesota AmeriCorps Emergency Response Initiative (ERI) Members serve at a partner organization that requires additional support in responding to the community’s relief efforts for local and statewide emergencies caused or compounded by COVID-19. Members serve 35 hours per week. This is an AmeriCorps service member position and is part of the AmeriCorps Emergency Response Initiative.
The Duluth Public Schools is seeking 10 ERI members to support a range of education-related needs. Activities may vary throughout the summer including outreach to families and students; assisting with credit recovery for high schoolers; preparing for and supporting academic enrichment programming for elementary or middle school students; helping with community-based enrichment programming; or other needs. These positions will serve a vital role in helping meet the needs of Duluth’s students, preparing them for success in the 21/22 school year and beyond.
Essential Functions:
- Fulfill the duties and tasks outlined by the assigned service site in its Emergency Response AmeriCorps Project Plan; this service expands the service site’s capacity to respond to significant needs in their community related to local and statewide emergencies.
- Emergency response-related service could include a combination of several response tasks such as addressing education needs of students; food insecurity; housing insecurity/homelessness; volunteer coordination; connecting people to community resources; resource distribution; assisting with community needs assessments; supporting virtual services and resources for adults; social isolation mitigation; and communications and marketing support.
- Follow protocols in reporting duties and tasks, including impact to the greater community.
- Follow all required safety procedures at the service site.
- Submit timesheets once every two weeks.
- Demonstrate regular, timely attendance at the service site. Adhere to a regular schedule of in-person service, determined by the service site.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with the Program Manager, Program Staff, Site Supervisor, and other service site personnel.
- Commit to serving a minimum of 300 service from June 7, 2021, through August 14, 2021
- Attend all required training sessions and meetings; travel as necessary.
