Living Stipend

Members receive a living stipend twice a month based on the number of hours they have committed to for the term of service. This stipend is taxed as income and members must complete a W-4.

Members who successfully complete their term of service will receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of up to $7,395, based on the number of hours served in the term. Awarded to the member at the end of their service term, it can be used to pay educational costs at eligible post-secondary institutions, repay qualified student loans, or be transferred to a child or grandchild if the member is over the age of 55.

Team members and their families should be able to enjoy the benefits our facilities offer! All members receive a 2 adult family membership to the YMCA. This membership can be used at our 3 local branches and almost any Y in the US! Learn more about our membership opportunities here.

If a member is making payments to a federally-backed education loan, payments can be put into forbearance during their service term. Upon successful completion of the program, the accrued interest will be paid by the National Service Trust. Learn more about loan forbearance on the AmeriCorps website.

Full time members are eligible to enroll in health, dental, and vision insurance with 100% of the premium paid. The plan is managed through Cigna and includes medical coverage for individual members. It does not cover dependents.

Members may qualify to receive child-care assistance through a program administered by GAP Solutions, Inc. in order to be eligible for the assistance program, members must meet income requirements and serve in a full time capacity. True North AmeriCorps members participate in ongoing professional development facilitated by program staff and local youth development leaders. Topics include social competency and interpersonal skill building, group facilitation, leadership skills, volunteer management, data collection, cultural competency, and much more. Many TNAC members make connections in their service term that boost them into a career!

OPEN POSITIONS

Stowe KEY Zone serves many youth from low income and minority backgrounds in the Gary New Duluth neighborhood. The program’s primary focus is on environmental education and getting kids outdoors. The school is connected to 13 acres of school forest which makes for many days of active time outside learning about nature and building forts!

The AmeriCorps member is actively running programs on a daily basis while they are in session, and planning and preparing for the next upcoming programs when they are not in session. The focus of this role is on working with the youth participants, including managing a caseload of Teen/tween Cadet participants with more intensive interactions.

A member in this role will mentor 4th and 5th grade “Junior Coaches”, who lead inclusive playground games for other students at recess. You’ll support these 4th and 5th grade students in their leadership role by helping increase their confidence, their group leadership, and their conflict resolution skills.

 In this position, members will serve both during the school day, supporting within the classroom, as well as transition with the students to the free, after-school programming provided by the Duluth Community Schools Collaborative.

Connects students to their community and to the natural world we call home. After a long day of classroom learning they come to us to us to learn through play. We learn to trust ourselves by climbing trees, we learn about art by painting with mud, we learn to notice the world around us by following animal tracks in the woods.

DECS North Star Eagle’s Nest out-of-school time program has a fun atmosphere that serves students in grades K-6. Structured daily activities include a snack, physical activities, academic enrichment, and free-choice time.

Myers Wilkins is in the Central Hillside neighborhood and students come from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. The students at this site have a wide range of needs which creates many opportunities to help them learn and grow.

As an AmeriCorps member in the Forest School you will work directly with Forest School staff to implement the nature-based curriculum with a special emphasis on guiding interpersonal and social skills for student development and growth.

The AmeriCorps member will support the advocacy program using the Safe and Strong Child curriculum, direct youth and family advocacy, and support groups. In this role, the member will help present to thousands of kids in greater Duluth, Carlton County, and Lake County schools. The goal is to empower children with knowledge and skills regarding safe and unsafe touches, what sexual abuse is, who to tell, and how they can identify unsafe situations. We work with not only children, but teachers, school staff, and parents/caregivers.
