In this time of “virtual communication” many adults have turned to applications like Zoom and Google Hangouts. These are great tools for holding meetings or conference calls, and are finally starting to feel a little less awkward than they did a month ago. While Zoom and Google are great, it seems that the youth have taken to the application TikTok as their preferred way of virtual communication.
From fun dances, to rants about feelings, and silly feel-good videos, TikTok has it all. Since we mainly serve with youth, TNAC members are starting to take on the challenge of learning TikTok. Some TNAC members have created pages for their site and have found it to be a really fun and interesting way to connect with youth. Through some technical difficulties and hours spent splicing videos together, TNAC members are still getting things done.
TNAC members, McKenna and Signe, serve at the Boys and Girls Club of the Northland in Duluth and have been creating TikTok videos. Their videos have been getting great feedback from the kids! Many of their videos include creating challenges, silly content, and feel-good motivational material. McKenna and Signe are appreciative that they’re still able to connect and create meaningful relationships with the youth they work with, just through a different way of virtual communication.
