COVID-19 Response

AmeriCorps members across the county are stepping up to provide relief in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. With guidance from the Corporation for National and Community Service and Serve Minnesota, we’ve been able to provide our members with a variety of opportunities to safely get involved.

True North AmeriCorps Members are tackling new challenges: maintaining relationships while practicing social distancing; ensuring access to healthy meals; helping ease the transition to distance learning; and supporting childcare for our emergency and healthcare workers. Featured above, Kari Thoreson, a member from the Duluth Community School Collaborative, uses technology to read to kids on her caseload. Rian Coleman and supervisor Ashley Grimm of the Damiano Center’s Kids Kitchen pass out bagged dinners in downtown Duluth. Allison Ternes, a KEY Zone Member with the Duluth YMCA and ISD 709, helps kids of emergency workers get creative with art projects. Each day these individuals are proving that AmeriCorps members get things done!
