A large part of what TNAC members provide for the youth in this community is out of school enrichment clubs. Keela, a member at Myers-Wilkins, K.E.Y. Zone, used her innovation to introduce a new S.T.E.M Club for the kids at her site. The club turned out to be a total success, and the kids now look forward to what Keela has planned for S.T.E.M. club that day. Great work, Keela! S.T.E.M. Club teaches very essential skills for youth development!
During after-school K.E.Y. Zone we devout a whole hour for different clubs, AKA “club time.” After hearing some kids say they wanted to do something different, I decided to give it a shot and try running my own club. I wanted something for the kids that incorporated a STEM subject and taught them skills they could still use outside of K.E.Y. Zone. Thus, came “science club.” For our first club meeting, we made our own play-doh! We got to see what happened when we put different elements together. And another time, we made our own cake from scratch! We got to measure out our ingredients with measuring cups and crack eggs (a first, for some). And now when I walk in, I have lots of joyous faces running up to me to ask what we’re doing in science club this week.
